Tax Analysts is an exhibiting sponsor at the 6th Annual U.S. - Latin America Tax Planning Strategies conference. Tax Analysts’ own Cara Griffith and Joe Thorndike will be speaking at the May Meeting this year on Thursday, May 9 and Friday, May 10, respectively. This premier annual event attracts over 2,000 practitioners and includes high-level panel discussions on tax policies, regulations, and procedures presented by government officials and industry experts. Additionally, attendees are able to take advantage of CLE and ethics programming presented by over 40 Section of Taxation Committees.

This conference will provide up-to-the-minute tax reporting information with IRS and industry experts. Discussion topics will include FATCA, reporting cost basis for covered securities, foreclosures/cancellation of debt, deposit interest paid to nonresident aliens, state reporting, accounts payable/1099-K and IRAs.

One hundred years ago this month, the Sixteenth Amendment to the Constitution was ratified, giving Congress the “power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.”

Coinciding with the Presidential Inauguration weekend, the symposium will feature four panel discussions with a variety of prominent and well-known scholars and practitioners who will discuss how the tax code may change during the next four years. It will also feature a keynote address by Columbia Law School's Michael Graetz and a luncheon address by David Cay Johnston, an investigative journalist and author and winner of the 2001 Pulitzer Prize.
